DVD-Cloner for Mac is by far the easiest 1 click solution for duplicating and backing up DVD discs. The main screen offers easy to understand settings where you can choose to copy a DVD9 (dual layer) to a DVD5 (single layer) thus eliminating the extras and trailers, or you can copy a DVD9 to a DVD9, or a DVD5 to a DVD5 (exact copies). This is what the majority of Mac users are using to complete this task including yours truly. |

Wondershare DVD Copy for Mac provides you with four output methods. You can copy your DVD to either a new DVD disc or save your DVD as DVD folder, ISO file or DVD player media on your computer. Things to keep in mind while shopping for a DVD Copy App for your Mac
There are some major features that you must demand out of a DVD copying software and I used these as my guidelines while comparing the latest round of apps to hit the market. All of the software that I have listed here meet all of these requirements and some do a better job than others which I will highlight. Here is my list of what you should expect from a DVD Copier software on your Mac:
- DVD shrinking ability - does the software compress a larger DVD image onto a single layer DVD? This is necessary for costs reasons mainly. It is much cheaper to use single layer (around .25 each) DVD-R or DVD+R discs when copying discs compared to dual layer (around 2.00 each) discs.
- 1:1 Copying Ratio - This is important because many users are looking for a straight up disc copying program and expect the backup to look and work just as good as the original. This can be classified as a DVD5 to DVD5 or DVD9 to DVD9 copying.
- Easy to understand interface - a major factor in determining what software is quality. Developers understand the difficulties with the DVD format and know that most people don't necessarily care about how the format works or what is required in the DVD structure. They just want it to work, period! Thus developing in a very user friendly interface is a good sign that the company behind the software understand the needs of the users and put in the time to make a simple one click operation. All of the software that I like has a push button interface and once the settings are in place all you need to do is to insert the disc you want to copy and hit the Copy button. Note: DVD Cloner for Mac is the best at this and I had the best success with it while copying more resent releases.
- Copy Protected DVD Content - All Hollywood DVD releases ship with a form of copy protection built onto the disc (CSS) during the authoring stage of manufacturing. Thus you simply can not just insert a movie disc and have free reign over the content, which is why you need a DVD decrypter. Due to legal reasons developers of this type of software can't release software with this decrypter built in so a way around this process is to make the software compatible with 3rd party decrypters which you will need to do some digging online to obtain. However a simple search will return a few free options for you to download and install. Once you have this the software will be able to make your copies like you are Al Capone.
The Main Benefit of Using a Good DVD Copying Program
To sum up, while shopping for software to copy DVD movies on your Mac keep in mind the above functions. If you have all of those covered in your app of choice then you will be happy with the results. To reiterate: all of the software that I list here meets all of these demands. The software that I tried that did not live up to these expectations were uninstalled immediately and forgotten about. :) I hope this guide helps you decide on what will work best for you.
