DVD Copy Software Review - Updated for 2013

DVD Copying IconMany types of DVD software exist for DVD Copying but which one is the best for your requirements. This is the question we hope to address in our review. The most common function that people today are looking for is to make a duplicate of your DVD movie right? That's true, but don't overlook the other functions that most DVD Copy apps provide today. The ability to shrink a DVD onto one blank is a major requirement. This is needed so you don't have to use more expensive dual layer discs. Another cool feature is the ability to convert video into other formats. Say you have an iPod or iPad and you want to watch the movie on those devices. With the right software you can not only make a copy but you can also convert it into these formats.

After testing 20+ DVD Copy apps here in our labs our overall leader is 1Click DVD Copy. We put each title through the paces of copying single layer and dual layer DVD's. We used the Lacie D2 DVD/Blu-Ray burner unless otherwise noted.

DVD Copy Software for Mac OSX

Other DVD Copy Software Apps Reviewed:

Here are a few additional programs that we didn't get to review in our report. The reason these didn't make it was because they were released after our testing date. Once a full review is completed we will adjust our review chart accordingly. Please note that all software on this page can copy protected DVD movies.

Our software testing criteria for all titles includes the following:

  • Features: The main thing I look for in a quality DVD backup software is first the speed of the entire backup process. Pretty much every software reads the movie disc at the same speed because you are limited to the DVD burner for the part, but the difference is in the video encoder that the software uses. Some process the video at a faster rate and still retain the same video quality. If you are a stickler for video resolution then you will want to take a look at our #1 result because 1Click DVD Copy uses CPRx technology which offers the best video resolution in this type of software.

Secondly I look to see if the software has a built in DVD decrypter or if you need to use a third party decrypter like DVD43 or the ever popular AnyDVD HD which decrypts both DVD and Blu-Ray.

  • Stability: DVD copying software has been around for nearly 10 years now and most know that the stability of the software is a true sign of a quality software. Back in 'the day' many apps failed any making multiple copies of a disc. However today most of these stability bugs have been worked out, well at least for the ones that I recommend. Suspiring there are still a few apps where I ran into a few burning issues and had to start the process all over again. These are noted in the full review.

  • Ease of Use: There is nothing fancy with most DVD copy apps today. Nearly all of the titles I looked at were a 1-Click operation, meaning that after your optimal setting are set then all you need to do is to input the DVD you want to copy and then click the BIG start button. Other than that you just need to determine how you want to make a backup (either to a blank DVD or to your Hard Disk).

These are the main points to keep in mind while looking for a software for your DVD needs. I am confident that our results show what the best DVD copying apps are today in 2012. If you have read this far then you must be interested in this technology. If so use our guides and articles below to further your knowledge.
